01.05.2012 Brownies, ballet and beaches

We are really very pleased to announce the addition of Account Executive Jodie Phillips to our team.

To welcome our new recruit to the fold, we’ve subjected her to a selection of random questions. Some of which we ask at interview, many of which we don’t (or we’d have the employment lawyers on our back).

So let’s find out what makes Jodie tick…

First things first, what attracted you to the communications/public relations game?

I have always had a passion for writing which is why I chose to study English Literature at Cardiff University. I also really enjoy building relationships with people (which is a nice way of saying I love to talk!). When I was studying and looking into the possibilities for my career, I instantly became attracted to PR and communications as it combines everything I love to do!

I was very fortunate to secure a job in Public Relations straight after University which helped me develop my skills and knowledge on a a variety of clients. I’m now looking forward to working on integrated communications projects at Cake Communications and becoming a more rounded consultant. It’s week three and so far so good!

Enough of work talk – what do you like to do when you’ve hit that deadline/ticked all of that to do list?

I’m a bit of a fitness fiend so I really enjoy cardio classes in my local gym. I do Body Step and Body Attack classes twice a week. I also enjoy Zumba and most other random exercise classes (I tried Skiptrix before. Wasn’t convinced…)

I’m also a trained Ballerina and have been attending Ballet lessons since I was three.

That aside, I guess one of my favourite things is relaxing with friends and family. There’s nothing better than going out for a dance with the girls or, equally as good, staying in with a take-away and watching a chick flick whilst munching on Minstrels!

Flicks eh? Our kind of girl. What’s your favourite film?

It depends on what type of mood I’m in but I do love The Notebook – what girl doesn’t? But then I love classics like Shawshank Redemption, Blood Diamond, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days….Anything with a good story or that can make me laugh is usually a winner for me.

If you could go to any holiday destination in the world where would it be?

I love holidays where I can chill out in the sun, especially because working in PR and communications across multiple clients can be a demanding job. I’ve always wanted to go to Hawaii for a beach holiday. Equally, I would love to go to Rome as I think I would love the culture.

If you could choose three celebrities to come to a dinner party, who would you choose and what would be your signature dish to cook?

That’s a tough question! I think I would have to say Danny O’Donoghue from The Script and The Voice. He seems like great fun and could sing and entertain guests.  Nick Hewer from the Apprentice – as he’s a former Public Relations Consultant I think we would have quite a few things in common and I think he would be a really interesting character. Plus I’d have to talk to him about those famous facial expressions that he pulls on the show. I think I would have to say Kate Middleton too – her style is so classic and she seems like a lovely person.

As for my signature dish, it would definitely have to be homemade chocolate brownies. It’s my Mum’s recipe which I now use and they always go down a right treat with friends and colleagues. I’m a massive chocoholic myself so I don’t think I could ever organise a dinner party without chocolate being on the menu somewhere!

That’s right readers, we managed to end on a Cake note….
