15.11.2013 Cake Director recognised as London Business Person of the Year

Our huge congratulations go to our Executive Director, Richard Alvin, who scooped the award for Business Person of the Year at last night’s Docklands Business Club and East London Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.

The award, sponsored by The Wharf newspaper, celebrates the ability of an individual to motivate and display entrepreneurial acumen, dynamism, enterprise and charisma.

Nominees for the award have displayed a great business track record and support to others in business as well as showing innovation, creativity, vision and perseverance.

The awards celebrate the best of business of all size in the east London, and especially London Docklands area. Commenting on Richard’s award, Janette Withey DBC Chairman said:

“Richard was an outstanding winner, who over the past 15 has driven his companies to success after success. He also believes in supporting up-and-coming businesses by helping mentor them and through his charitable foundation in giving back. There was only ever one winner for us.”

Richard, a dedicated Tottenham Hotspurs fan, can now add this to his growing list of accolades including being awarded the Freedom of the City of London in May 2011 and being made a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce (RSA) in July 2011.

Speaking about the award, Richard said:

“I am truly honoured to have won this award, having started my first business in the  Docklands in 1998, after leaving the London Docklands Development Corporation.

“I never thought after buying the local newspaper 17 years ago would develop into a media and investment group encompassing print, online and broadcast media, alongside publishing, research, events and PR.”

Richard is based in our Canary Wharf office and heads up our national media liaison and digital divisions, including smartphone and app development and digital design services.
