12.12.2011 Harvey Nichols Walk of Shame ad
Here at Cake Communications we like to pass around thought-provoking, interesting and just plain amusing things that we’ve found. Be it a photograph, blog post, infographic or a news article, we are going to spread the love and let you in on these little gems. Each week we’ll update the blog with our latest favourite things. We hope it will help readers find out about a bit more about us and what makes us tick. Enjoy! Harvey Nichols has poked its tongue (lodged firmly in cheek) at the tear-jerking John Lewis ad with its Christmas campaign advising women how to avoid the ‘Walk of Shame’. The clip shows a handful of dishevelled, shame-faced girls trying to make their way home the morning after a festive night out. The sorry-looking bunch avoid eye contact with passers-by as they try to protect their modesty by pulling down, or hitching up, their tiny and quite obviously party dresses. The advert, which uses the strapline “Turn your walk of shame into a stride of pride”, finishes with a woman strutting home in a dress she’s not embarrassed to be seen in the next day. We like it because it’s quirky, clever and plays on an experience many women can relate to. Thumbs up to Harvey Nicks!
