What is it?

The Transport Accident Commission (TAC) in Victoria, Australia, launched an eye-catching campaign to help reduce road accidents. The campaign centered on Graham, a model of a man with the physical features a human would need to be able to survive a car crash. Patricia Piccinini, an Australian artist, worked alongside a surgeon and car crash investigation expert to create the model.

What was the effect?

Graham’s bizarre but spookily-realistic physical appearance ensured the campaign gained huge amounts of attention across social and traditional media channels around the world.

Why we liked it

Graham reminded us of our own vulnerabilities and mortality, and the campaign’s strong visual impact ensured it gained maximum publicity and helped start conversations about and raise awareness of road safety issues worldwide.
